National kite flying contest attracts visitors
Hundreds of domestic and foreign tourists have flocked to Cua Dai Beach in the central province of Quang Nam on May 31 to enjoy a special kite performance.
As many as 130 craftmen from traditional kite clubs across the nation and those from Cambodia displayed more than 500 colourful kites at the fourth national kite contest.
The most noteworthy was a 100m-long dragon kite from a kite club in HCMC. It was listed in the Vietnam Guinness Book of Records.
Claude Balland, General Manager of the Victoria Group, which has so far sponsored the contest, said that as of 2009 his group will develop the contest into an international event to attract the participation of many nations worldwide to preserve the art of making traditional kites as well as promoting the image of Vietnam.
